Temporary short link that ends by itself
A temporary short link stops working after a set time. On Kort, codes of 2, 3 and 4 characters end on their own: after 1 hour, 1 to 3 days or 30 days.
You can't pick an exact end time. The length of the code sets it. Check a 3-character code below, or type a 2-character or 4-character code to compare.
How long can a temporary link last?
A Kort temporary link lasts 1 hour, 1 to 3 days or 30 days. The length of the code decides which. They are free during launch, and you log in with Google to claim one.
| Code length | Lasts | Renew | You can hold | Rests after it ends |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 characters | 1 hour | No | 1 at a time | 1 day |
| 3 characters | 1 to 3 days, your pick | No | 1 at a time | 7 days |
| 4 characters | 30 days | 30 days at a time, for up to 1 year | 3 at a time | 30 days |
For a 3-character code, you choose the number of days when you claim it, up to 3 days.
How to claim a temporary link
- Type a code of 2, 3 or 4 characters in the box above.
- If it's free, log in with Google.
- For a 3-character code, pick how many days you want.
- Paste the long link you want to share, then press Claim.
- The Your links page then shows the time left.
What happens when the link ends
When the time is up, the link stops working. Anyone who opens it sees a page that says the link has ended.
The code then rests for 1 day, 7 days or 30 days, depending on its length. Nobody can claim it while it rests, you included. After that, anyone can claim it again.
Don't put a rented code on anything that has to last, such as a printed page. Once the rest is over, someone else may hold the code.
You can also end a rental early. Release it from the Your links page, and it rests in the same way.
Pick the shortest window that fits
- 1 hour, 2 characters: a meeting, a call, a live stream or a talk, where people type the link right away.
- 1 to 3 days, 3 characters: a one-day sale, a weekend event or a sign-up that closes in a few days.
- 30 days, 4 characters: a month-long class, a campaign or a trial. You can renew it 30 days at a time, for up to 1 year in all.
A shorter window means the link doesn't stay live after you're done with it.
Links that do not end
Not every Kort link is temporary. Random 5-character links and your own codes of 6 to 20 characters have no end date. Use one of those for anything that has to stay up, such as a flyer or a page you print.
What Kort does not do
Kort doesn't let you set your own end date or time on any link, so you can't say "end on Friday at 5 pm". It also can't edit a link's destination, and it has no QR codes or detailed analytics, only a click count. If you need an exact end time, pick a tool that offers it.
Common questions
Can I set my own expiry date?
No. Kort does not offer expiry dates you set. The end time comes from the code length: 1 hour for 2 characters, 1 to 3 days for 3 characters and 30 days for 4 characters.
What do visitors see after it ends?
They see a page that says the link has ended. After a rest of 1 day, 7 days or 30 days, depending on the code length, anyone can claim the code again.
Are temporary links free?
Yes, during launch. You log in with Google. The limit at a time is 1 for 2-character codes, 1 for 3-character codes and 3 for 4-character codes.
Can I extend a temporary link?
Only a 4-character code. You renew it 30 days at a time, for up to 1 year in all, from the Your links page. 2-character and 3-character codes can't be renewed. Claim a 4-character code if you need more time.
Can I end a temporary link early?
Yes. Release the code from the Your links page. The link ends, and the code rests like any rental that has ended before anyone can claim it again.
Do normal Kort links expire?
No. Random 5-character links and your own codes of 6 to 20 characters have no end date. Only the short rented codes end.
