Online clipboard: share text with a short code

Paste your text in the box below and press Share. You get a short number code, like 4821. Type it on any phone or computer within 3 minutes to open the text and copy it.

It's free, and you don't need an account or an app. After 3 minutes, the text expires and nobody can open it.

Open a code

4 to 8 digits, like 4821.

How it works

  1. Paste or type your text, up to 20,000 characters, and press Share.
  2. Kort gives you a code, like 4821, and a link that ends in /t/4821.
  3. On the other device, type the code in the Open a code box, or open the link. Then press Copy text.

When it helps

  • Moving a link, an address or a note from your phone to your computer, or back, without emailing it to yourself.
  • Passing a snippet to someone next to you. Read the code out loud and they type it in.
  • Sharing a link or a few lines with a class or a meeting. Write the code on the board or say it on the call.
  • Getting text onto a shared or public computer without logging in to your email or chat there.

Know the limits

  • Codes are short so they are easy to type. That also means they are not secret: anyone with the code can read the text until it expires.
  • The text lasts 3 minutes. You can't make it last longer, and you can't delete it early.
  • There is no end-to-end encryption. The text travels over HTTPS, but Kort stores it as you typed it and could read it. Don't share passwords, keys or private data.
  • One text holds up to 20,000 characters of plain text. You can't share files or images.
  • Codes are 4 to 8 digits, with no letters. Most are 4 digits. You get a longer one only when many short codes are in use.

Common questions

How long does shared text last?

3 minutes from the moment you press Share. After that, the code shows a page that says the text has expired, and nobody can read it. Kort deletes the text from its live database within about 23 minutes of sharing, though its database provider's short-term backups can keep a copy for up to 30 days.

Who can read the text I share?

Anyone who has the code or the link, until the text expires. Codes are short, so don't treat one like a password. The text is not end-to-end encrypted, so Kort could read it too. Don't share passwords, card numbers or private data.

Do I need an account or an app?

No. The online clipboard works in the web browser on any phone, tablet or computer. You don't install anything or sign up.

How much text can I share?

Up to 20,000 characters of plain text. Line breaks and spaces stay exactly as you typed them. Files and images are not supported.

Why is the code only digits?

Digits are easy to read out loud and quick to type on a phone's number pad. Codes start at 4 digits, so they are short, and short codes are not secret. Rate limits make guessing codes slow, but anyone with the code can read the text. Don't share passwords or private data.
