Terms of use
These are the rules for using Kort. By making a link, claiming a code or logging in, you agree to them.
Using Kort
Kort turns a long link into a short one. You can use it for free if you follow these terms. If you don't agree with them, please don't use Kort.
What you can't do
Don't use Kort to:
- send people to scams, phishing pages or malware;
- share anything illegal, or anything that harms or threatens other people;
- send spam, or hide where a link goes so that people end up somewhere they didn't expect;
- pass yourself off as another person or a brand, for example by choosing a code that looks like theirs;
- get around our limits and checks, for example with bots that make many links;
- attack, overload or break Kort.
You are responsible for every link you make and for the page it leads to.
Links we switch off
We check new links against Google's list of unsafe sites, and we read reports from other people. We may switch off any link that breaks these terms, has been reported or looks unsafe. We may do it without warning. Anyone who opens a switched-off link sees a warning page. We may also stop making links for someone who keeps breaking the terms.
Think a link is harmful? Report it. If we switched off your link by mistake, tell us on the same page.
Short codes and rentals
A short code gives you the right to use it under these terms. You don't own it.
- Codes of 2, 3 or 4 characters are rentals. A 2-character code lasts 1 hour. A 3-character code lasts up to 3 days, and you pick how long. A 4-character code lasts 30 days, and you can renew it for 30 days at a time, up to 1 year in all.
- When a rental ends, the link stops working and the code rests before anyone can claim it again, you included. The rest lasts 1 day for 2 characters, 7 days for 3 and 30 days for 4.
- You can hold only a few rentals at once: 1 with 2 characters, 1 with 3 and 3 with 4.
- Random 5-character codes and codes of 6 to 20 characters have no end date. They last as long as Kort runs and the link follows these terms.
- Some codes are reserved, such as one-character codes (which are closed for now), common words, brand names and patterns like 1111 or abcd. We may refuse a code, or take one back if we have to, for example to protect people from a scam.
Codes use 33 letters and numbers. We read o as 0, and i and l as 1, so codes that look alike are the same code.
A free service, with no promises
Kort is free, and we provide it as it is. We don't promise that it will always work, be fast or be free of mistakes. We don't promise that a link will keep working for any length of time. We may change Kort, add limits or stop it. We will try to warn people first, but we can't promise that.
We are not responsible for the pages that short links lead to. The person who made the link is. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss caused by using Kort, or by a link that stops working.
Your account
You log in with Google. Keep your account safe, because you are responsible for what happens under it. The privacy page says what we store.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If you keep using Kort after a change, you accept the new terms.
Questions
We don't have an email address for questions yet. For now, use the report page. We wrote these terms in plain words. They are not legal advice. If you need advice on how they apply to you, ask a lawyer.
